He basically described every point of the book that centers around Midori...which is basically the entire book. I'm currently making a cleaner summary of the novel in the CELL article, and I expect someone will trim down Midori's history in the near future. --cruncher3019 03:44, March 23, 2010 (UTC)

Thank god I'm not alone anymore! Basicly, this is the entire novel put into cronological order and without the segments where Adamas or the other Midori take the spotlight. You can't expect this to be treated like AI buster. This book is heavier by far than the AI busters because it doesn't stop the plot every two paragraphs to reiterate game machanics. Basicly, all that CELL reveals about mechanics is that Midori doesn't follow them. On another note, I need to get Borderline MMO before the GUNovel pages shrivle up and die. I don't know why you brought that up. The problem isn't what CELL brings up throughout the story, it's about how large and chunky your history for midori is. It's a "wall of text" as RPG put it. I'd suggest you attempt to start organizing her history and drastically slimming it down now, as most of the story will be brought up in the story summary, thus meaning there isn't a need for so much info in Midori's article. Also, if you could spellcheck your work after EVERY EDIT and re-read it for grammatical errors. I looked over your history for Midori and it was full of spelling errors and still has multiple grammatical ones. It makes the article look less professional. Green v Blue

True to her name, Midori has blue eyes. (Although "midori" usually means "green" in Japanese, she uses the Kanji 碧, which actually means "blue.")

^Storing this here until the debate is decided.

I'm currently reverting all of the changes saying that Midori's eyes are blue due to the following reasons:

1. In the book, when ever Midori's eyes themselves are the center of attention, they are called green, but when they are just a passing detail, they are called blue.
2. I read somewhere that the kanji for blue and green are the same, thus giving reason for the interchangability to violated. (I don't speak japanese, but I do remember useless info)
3. East Asian cultures prize green eyes far more than any other color so it is more understandable to name a child for it's green eyes rather than blue ones that would go brown as the child grows.
4. The ultimite reason: her eyes are green on the cover.

I am reverting the changes back from green to blue for the following reasons:

1. On the covers of the .hack//CELL books they are blue. In the colored art included in the Japanese release of the books, they are again, clearly blue.

2. In volume two on page 10, it says that her eyes are the same color blue as deep blue saphires. I've never seen green saphires, have you?

3. A lot of Japanese are blue-green color blind, so the word "blue" and "green" can be foggy at times. (Another good example of this is the "Green Beast" Rock Lee from Naruto. In Japanese, they call him "aoi" which usually means "blue" but the Kanji they give him is usually used to mean green.) However, the Kanji they used usually means "blue" not "green" and the comparative descriptions used in the second volume prove that it's blue.

Sign, it's good for your (my) health.

1. They most certainly are not blue on the cover and I would like to see some of those pictures to be certain.
2. Albireo did a whole spill about the woes of translators amounting to the fact that figuretive language is not universal. Get the quote in japanese, please.
3. There's no such tyhing as blue/green color blind. there's red/green, which is indeed common, and there is yellow/blue which is not.
4. Either way it's still a mistranslation.

Here's what my dictionary collection has to say on the matter (my translations of Japanese definitions):

碧: Green. Blue. Blue-green. Dark blue. (source: 漢語林)

みどり:

1. The name of a color.

a. The color of plants. Particularly, the color of new growth.

b. A deep indigo color, like the sea. 碧 [I have left this single-character portion of the definition untranslated, as it seems particularly relevant here].

c. Glossy black. Used particularly of hair.

1. I'd have to scan and upload the clearest picture I've seen showing her eyes, since I haven't been able to find it online yet. It's a 2 page colored picture in the second book. But there are several pictures here showing her eyes as being a blue/purple color, not green. http://www.minitokyo.net/Midori

2. Seeing as I know Japanese as well as I know English, I think I know how to properly translate. But to humor you, I'll throw up a few quotes from Volume 2.

Page 10: 腰まで届く艶やかな黒髪がなびき、うっすらと開かれた瞼からサファイアにも似た青く澄んだ瞳が覗いている。

That's the quote where her eye color is compared to sapphires (it also talks about her hair in the beginning).

Page 11:　やがて碧眼の深部に灯る光―――。 Here it uses 碧眼 to say "blue eyes." Please note that 碧 is also the Kanji she uses for her name. Page 12: 目を細め、青い瞳で世界の情報を取得。

Here it uses 青い to describe her blue eyes. Unlike some other Kanji for the word "aoi" this Kanji never means "green" and always means "blue." Again, you can look it up.

3. As for the whole blue-green color blind, it's a problem with the S-cones (a color receptor) in your eyes. Although the S-cones problem is technically blue-yellow color blindness, it is also fairly commonly referred to as blue-green, since it does impact how you view the two colors. I agree green eyes would have been way cooler. If I'd never read the Japanese version of the books, I'd have thought they were green, too. I've read your User Page as well. It's pretty cool looking. ^_^
