This is the discussion page for the .hack//Wiki Main Page. This page is specifically for discussions relating to the design of that page, or .hack//Wiki as a whole.

  • If you have a problem with or question about something in a specific article, please use that article's discussion page.
  • If you want to ask a specific contributor a question, use that contributor's discussion page (not their actual personal article page, their discussion page).
  • If you want to address something that relates to multiple pages, such as a certain series or all character or monster pages, the best place to ask is in the Community Portal page under Current Discussions Ask Piros! BBS.
  • If you want help regarding progress in a game or anything of that nature, try asking in a gaming forum like GameFAQs; leave it off this Wiki. .hack//Wiki is not a strategy guide.
  • If you want to suggest an addition to the function or features of this Wiki as a whole, you may use this page or the Community Portal page under Current Discussions Ask Piros! BBS. Either place as of this moment works.
  • If you are having problems finding certain information on this Wiki, either you haven't been looking hard enough, or no one has added that information to the Wiki yet. Try to request for the information at the Requests, and a crack team of Chim Chims will determine whether or not we have that information. If we do, someone will direct you to it. If not, your request will be noted and someone may or may not get around to making the necessary article or adding the information. Or you could take the initiative and create the article / add the information yourself. We don't mind if you skip any steps, just as long as the information is verifiable and TRUE.
  • If you just want to address the Wiki as a whole with an interesting tidbit of .hack information, or if you want to verify a rumor... We don't have a specific place for that, so here is fine for now. Take it to the Chaos Gate BBS or the News Capture BBS

Front page is due for another makeover[]

Just saying. I don't have the time to work on it right now but I've done some initial sketches. I want to simplify the layout, and maybe put in a sidebar on the left instead of the huge panels we've got going on right now.--OtakuD50 07:05, April 1, 2012 (UTC)

I am in agreement. The front needs to be redesigned. I don't know where every one is but how about moving the terminology list into its own column at the the top? Most wikia have sections similar to design we have for the BBS hyper links. You are an admin, would moving the most of the content for the tables into the naviagtion system work? The site would become better organized Outlaw630 22:32, April 19, 2012 (UTC)

Apr-1-10's change?[]

What's with the sudden obsession with Heneko? Why's she the featured article? She was never voted for, and all of this just seems like trolling to me, since reverting it does nothing, with other users changing it back to Heneko-page. Balmunk 20:52, April 1, 2010 (UTC)

It's just this year's April fools day joke.--Daipenmon 21:18, April 1, 2010 (UTC)

...And I was starting to worry we only had an April Day...--Falcon At 21:21, April 1, 2010 (UTC)

Romaji?[]

I was wondering, why don't we include romaji alongside kanji and katakana? Maggosh 14:20, April 3, 2010 (UTC)

Probably because we didn't think to do it. If you wanna do it, go right ahead, just as long as the format is consistent and accurate.--OtakuD50 20:21, April 12, 2010 (UTC)
I'll do that, thanks. Maggosh 16:58, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

Canon[]

Moved to Template talk:Noncanon

Quote of the Month[]

Similar to an article of the month, maybe add a quote of the month?

Sign your posts. Also, we were working on a randomized quote template, but that seems to have gone by the wayside. Like so many other Wiki-improving projects. I would not be against it, but it just seems like a waste given the poor amount of participation we get here.--OtakuD50 07:21, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

Under construction[]

I know we were using the section for a quote randomize if I remember? I don't know how that going, but in the mean time would anyone mind if we used the section as a quest board for cleanup articles and stuff we're trying to finish on the wiki? Also sorry I haven't participated in the monthly stuff, I avoid stuff too much. Outlaw630 19:45, October 7, 2010 (UTC)

I was sorta thinking the same thing. Also considering implementing that worthless Achievement system that some of the other wikis have, just because it would be something new, but that's for another time.--OtakuD50 22:36, October 7, 2010 (UTC)
I finished the addition, not sure how good it is. (it be too pushy) Anyway I just chose the sections I'm working, should I list the actual articles? You can edit if you'd like. Outlaw630 04:33, October 9, 2010 (UTC)
Dude, you broke the front page. Why'd you change stuff you didn't have to?--OtakuD50 04:23, October 10, 2010 (UTC)
Huh? Looks the fine on my side. Are you using the new skin, its still centered anyway you can edit it, I don't know what was changed Outlaw630 22:05, October 10, 2010 (UTC)
Uh, no. The Points of Interest panel and Construction panel have been widened to half the page width when they should be thinner, and the This Month panel is now centered vertically. This was NOT the case before.--OtakuD50 05:21, October 11, 2010 (UTC)
I checked the history, there aren't any changes in those sections. But I do see what your talking about. Like I said though you'll have to handle it. The coding around the areas are the same but the new text is pushing the other boxes further out. The only thing left are the align centers under construction but those haven't changed anything. What widths are you trying to make it? Outlaw630 07:02, October 11, 2010 (UTC)
I just checked the history and it looks like you broke it without even messing with the other sections. Had something to do with the code you used for the new section; it just doesn't fit well with the rest of the page for some reason. I'll try to figure out something better that fits with what you're trying to go with.--OtakuD50 17:26, October 11, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Understood. I'll research width coding to see if there's anything I can do. I'm not good with page work so I'll just place it on the talk page next time. Outlaw630 20:14, October 11, 2010 (UTC)
I did it. Added separators and width text to prevent the codes from interfering with each other. The under construction box should be fully stretch horizontally now. http://dothack.wikia.com/index.php?title=.hack//Wiki&oldid=58102 Outlaw630 22:06, October 13, 2010 (UTC)
It still centers the This Month panel, and I can't for the life of me figure out why.--OtakuD50 06:03, October 14, 2010 (UTC)
Damn I worked hard on that too. Maybe I look at alignment coding. Is there anywhere else that needs assistance? Outlaw630

Actually, y'know what? How about just checking out the Community Portal? There's already a bunch to work on over there. I'll still work on stuff on the front page of course. I think I've got something.--OtakuD50 16:48, October 21, 2010 (UTC)

Needs more Navboxes[]

Hey. this place is hard to get around to. I dont know how to get around here. Well first off, you need to redirect titles that have .hack on them. I dont know why, but it seems you remove the .hack on them. makes it very difficult to get around to certain articles. It took me a while to realize that you remove it on the title page when i had to find a link to one of your articles.

Now for my main reason i posted. another reason why i can't get around here, is because of the way it's setup. there are no navboxes except for party members. You guys should add some. i'm still new, and don't know how to add them yet, but when i do, i'll sure to help. but those of you who do should really put some in here. finding characters is a hassle (especially when i get curious and want to find something i don't know about). Here's some suggestions i think would help this wiki be better. put navboxes for characters (each section separated by what series they were introduced). then make navboxes of the guilds, and so on. A navbox for real world related stuff such as ALTIMIT, CC corp. Stuff like that. A navbox for media would also be good, such as soundtracks and other. this way, you don't have to pile it up on the main page.Bijinder 00 07:22, December 5, 2010 (UTC)

All wikis under Wikia went through a forced change to a new "style." I tried my best to adapt the site to the new style, but one of the things that was lost was our side menu, so that makes things a bit tougher to navigate around. Now we only have a top menu that's limited to only three categories and I think six links for each category. However, there is the search bar, and if you use it you can pretty much find whatever you're looking for pretty easily. And as far as I know, the main page is a comprehensive & thorough index of most of the main articles you can find on the Wiki. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by navbox though. You say there aren't any navboxes except for party members, and that makes me really confused because as far as I know, we don't have anything that's exclusive only to party members.--OtakuD50 02:57, December 6, 2010 (UTC)

Nav boxs (short for navigation) are a bar info boxes used at the bottom of a page to organize data similar to a category page. We don't use the same thing but imagine the party temples for Kite, Haseo and Tokio, but without the mini boxes inside and separated by dots. Other wikia (Bleach & FF have some good examples) use them for ordering organizations, weapons, series and special categories. The reason we're not classified as using them even though are are so similar is because of the navi code we leave out. As for characters I've been practicing with something similar on my own page but for now we just have a Characters Page and the series pages to show the relations. I've been thinking what to do about it but ultimately and until I see him its more an bureaucrat's decision, speaking of which is Kulaguy still interested in continuing, I'd like to work with different ideas but it requires me to be at higher positions... Outlaw630 07:48, December 6, 2010 (UTC)

Show me what you have in mind & what you're capable of, and I'll try my best to wake Kula up.--OtakuD50 20:00, December 6, 2010 (UTC)

So why is the navi code left out? Also, the search bar is practically useless. Only someone who has been around this wiki knows how to use it correctly. Again i suggest adding redirects to the things that have (or suppsoe to have) ".hack//" in there title for example, .hack//roots be redirected to Roots. Someone new to this wiki would find it nearly impossible to find what they are looking for with the searchbar as the searchbar doesn't even give suggestions, its either you type it in exactly the way this wikia puts it as, or it doesn't exist. Although it does seem a little troublesome just to have one part of the title. they're more commonly known with the ".hack//" on front.

Also like i've said before, navboxes help find articles some of us aren't aware of, thats something searchbar wont help with. navboxes also have a show/hide command, so it's size can be reduced visually. If you want, i can find a code out there, and show youBijinder 00 16:49, December 6, 2010 (UTC)

I guess we could add in ".hack//" redirects, I mean we have a few of them already and it shouldn't take too much time to implement. The main thing was that in the early days, we couldn't have an article that started with a period, so we needed a workaround. Now that the wiki is pretty big, it'd be too much effort to make wide-scale changes. As for the navi boxes, I think we have several of those. Obviously the ones for party members, but also one for Grunties and Root Towns I believe. We could probably get to work on making more of them. Either one of you two could make them I'm sure, and if no one else does it I can get around to it after the semester ends.--OtakuD50 20:00, December 6, 2010 (UTC)
The party ones, aren't really navboxes, but they seem to resemble them. as for the other 2, the grunties need better organizing. maybe instead of going down, they can be horizontal rows like wikipedia's navboxes. I also think we need to add a Show/hide command on them. i'll expirement with the navboxes the other wikis have to see what i can do for this. I'm planning on doing it for the guilds, characters, real-world terms, and media, such as novels, anime, and maybe video games.Bijinder 00 22:22, December 6, 2010 (UTC)

Projects[]

I can't help but notice, you guys count the projects (project dot-hack) and (dot-hack conglomerate) as series. If you guys follow the interviews, the projects are just "projects" a multimedia project to make certain games, novels, OST but i dont tihnk they are actually "series". If you've noticed there is .hack//XXXX in .hack//conglomerate and a alternate version of the .hack games. I dont know how to explin it, but the projects aren't exactly something related series-wise. a new project means, new developers for media.Bijinder 00 22:43, December 6, 2010 (UTC)

We actually don't count them as series, and anyone who says we do is a liar. We count the different series as series, and we sort of divide things up by Era.--OtakuD50 23:50, December 6, 2010 (UTC)
Then you must have not read these pages. like i said on .hack conglomerate, you can't call the next project a "sequel" if its not even plot-driven. the articles tend to imply they are.Bijinder 00 23:54, December 6, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I really didn't read the pages, I was talking about the Wiki policy. I tend to stay away from reading stuff I've no interest in. The bad grammar and inaccuracies I find tend to get me depressed. I still have nightmares from when I had to fix the Elk article. At this point I'd like to point out that, as an editor, you have the power to fix these articles.--OtakuD50 00:12, December 7, 2010 (UTC)
When it comes to wikia, i have to be careful, each one has there own set of rules. But yes, i'll fix it as soon as i can.Bijinder 00 00:20, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

Under Text[]

It could be me. But has anyone else thought the welcome banner seems awkward. Would anyone oppose moving it under the main page text. How about formatted to left or center as well? Outlaw630 05:06, December 14, 2010 (UTC)

Contest[]

19 active users in the last month? We are on the brink of destruction... But the series is ending so this is a good chance, we can become something good. There's a contest at community wikia, can we enter? All we need is a list of the things wev'e added since 2009. OIf we win we get a wikia spotlight and massive design update for the front page.

Outlaw630 05:18, December 14, 2010 (UTC)

CyberConnect2 Wiki[]

Does, anyone can make an cyberconnect2 wiki.

We'll be able to make any misc games that made.
