Shanato provides a decent strength boost and forces the opponent to sacrifice a card, greatly complementing portal-destruction and item-destruction decks, though it is universally useful. It can replace a lv. 1 weapon or can be played faster by placing two earth-elemental cards from the discard pile to the top of the deck. It's best to play it the fast way since it can be used for card recycling or even destiny manipulation in some cases, but it shouldn't be played if the user is waiting to draw a new PC card.
