History

.hack//Wiki was created because of the difficulty of finding information on .hack. Even many large .hack fansites weren't able to keep up with the mass amount of .hack info. The idea of a Wiki about .hack began when Kulaguy was having difficulty keeping track of the info of .hack. After searching around and finding more information on Wiki creation, he stumbled upon Wikicities (Now: Wikia) and decided right then and there to start it.

But, there was a problem. Kulaguy did not know anything about how to manage a Wiki, so he turned to his forum for help. Not many people knew either but the majority decided to do what they can with what they knew. So now, most of .hack//Wiki is managed by the users of Kulaguy's forum. Currently, they are deciding which .hack info is false and which is true and to complete certain .hack articles. Everybody hopes that .hack//Wiki becomes a popular source for .hack info as Wookiepedia is for Star Wars info.

We aren't Wikipedia

Come on, you thought of it. A Wiki for .hack? Why? It's just gonna be vandalized, right? Why not just use Wikipedia? Well, here are some reasons why we are better.

  1. Wikipedia is a large Wiki with edits being made every single second. .hack//Wiki is a lot smaller and more specific, so if vandalism were to occur, it'd be easily seen in the Recent changes page.
  2. Wikipedia has begun to copy and paste articles from .hack//Wiki. This goes to show that .hack//Wiki is growing in popularity.
  3. Most of Wikipedia's .hack articles are wrong. Because there aren't many users managing it and there are many making needless edits, the articles at Wikipedia are filled with wrong information. .hack//Wiki is infinitely more accurate than the .hack articles at Wikipedia.

.hack//Terms

Many of the .hack media begin with ".hack//" and ends with the title. The members of Kulaguy's site decide it would be simpler to just remove the ".hack//" unless it is needed to differentiate between two different subjects, as is the case with Fragment and .hack//frägment (Fragment being the prototype or beta version of "The World" and .hack//frägment being the onlineXoffline game released on PS2).

The 4 part .hack video games; INFECTION, MUTATION, OUTBREAK, and QUARANTINE are referred to as .hack//Games or Games as a whole. This should not be confused with the GU video games; Rebirth, Reminisce, and Redemption, which are referred to as the GU Games as a whole.

Altimit Corp

Between August 28-September 10, 2006, .hack//Wiki participated in an event for a website meant to promote .hack//GU: Rebirth. Participants of the event were to search for a picture of an AIDA, it being hidden in the Current events page. The user CRtwenty added extra things like converting AIDA to 1337 (41o|4), adding the Japanese symbols of The World (ザ・ワ) to the page and also putting a binary version of 41o|4. Kulaguy changed the .hack//Wiki logo with one that has Tri-Edge's Sign, it being created by OtakuD50.

In Other Languages

.hack//Wiki is available in English, Japanese, Spanish and Polish. Both can be found in the Wikia host so registration is extended to them. The Japanese version was founded on April 22, 2006, 2 months after the English Wiki was created, after Robin Hood of the Azure Flame recieved permission from Kulaguy. The Polish and Spaninsh versions were created with no mention of them to Kulaguy whatsoever.
